Dog Hero?

I don’t really have much to say about this article other than to point to the sheer brevity of it. I’ll post it in its entirety here.

Dog brings home buns
(China Daily)

A fair-haired dog has become well known on a housing estate in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province.

The dog, called Er Bao, not only goes to the shop and buys buns for its master, surnamed Fang, but also looks after a litter of puppies by taking them out for walks.

Fang said her one-year-old dog could sense what she wants and claimed she turned down an offer of 30,000 yuan ($4,000) from someone who wanted to buy the hound.(Dongfang Jinbao News)

This sounds like a truly amazing dog. Certainly Er Bao is worthy of more than 79 words, no? Either the China Daily is a very small newspaper or it has a lot of stories in it. Either way, it looks like journalism has a way to go in China.

On a side note, I used to shop for my mother but lost the privilege when the buns I went out to purchase came back with teeth marks in them. That, and the fact the store always seemed to be out of hamburger revoked my grocery getting rights.

I'll Take...

Dear Old Man,

I'll take a Double-Double, Animal Style. Large fries. Large Strawberry shake (don't mess up the shake, you know I can't have chocolate.)

Why the confused look? Don't think I don't know you are in California, the home of the deli-cable IN-N-OUT Burger. Now swing on by on your way to the airport tomorrow, pick up my order and bring it home to Texas for me. Umkay?

Basset Hound v. Boiled Egg

It's Video Friday and today we watch a basset hound showing a boiled egg whose boss. Mom think the basset looks like me; I think I'm cuter.

Disapointed

The Old Man is home. I would be excited about this, except for the fact that he did not bring me a present back from Georgia. Not even a peach. A^&hole.

Mandatory Monday

Today is Mandatory Monday, which means mom has to go back to work. But, we sure did enjoy our time with her this weekend while the Old Man was out of town. In fact, we really, really would like her to become a stay at home dog mom; I would hate for her to miss out on our youth while passing the hours away in an office. I plan to bring this up to the Old Man upon his arrival home.

Below is a picture of us dog piled in Mom's lap...which is how we spent most of the weekend.
Excuse the extreme close up...Lulu likes to get all up in Mom's grill.

The Next American Idol?

It’s Video Friday and today we watch Wellington, a singing basset. He's singing on Billie Holliday's "I'll Be Missing You". Gotta admit: this dog's got talent. Would love to get Simon Cowell's take on this performance.

You Can't Afford Me...

My mom came across an article on the interwebs that talked about money saving tips for dog owners. I told her if she's going to take it seriously then she can’t afford me. Here’s the advice they give on food:

Carrots

If you live with a career chewer, you know how expensive it can be to dole out rawhides or other chew treats day in and day out. One cheap option is carrots. They satisfy most dogs’ yearning for a chew with a little give, and they won’t stain your carpet.

Don’t feel too virtuous, though. Because dogs lack the digestive enzymes to break down cellulose, vegetables must be pulverized to provide nutritional value. Also, carrots tend to give a dog’s coat an orangy tint.

Green beans

Even though vets warn about the dire consequences of obesity, most owners wimp out because they can’t stand the pleading eyes or the incessant whines.

Try substituting canned green beans, which are low in calories but high in bulk, to the newly reduced portions. Chunky monkeys will still feel sated.

Parmesan cheese

Fussy eaters can be infuriating. This simple trick is a favorite of stud-dog owners. When the dogs go on a hunger strike to protest lack of access to the object of their affections, sprinkle the potent grated cheese atop the regular food and cross your fingers.

I admit, I like Parmesan cheese on my veal picata but under no circumstances do I see the enjoyment in eating green beans or carrots. If you’re an owner feeding this to your dog, please, give the canine up for adoption.

Spring Break

It’s time for Spring Break and for me to sow my wild oats. But where to go, where to go? Why not to one of the top 20 most fun and exciting places to stay according to the London Times? Why not indeed.

Dog Bark Park Inn is a bed & breakfast guesthouse inside the World’s Biggest Beagle. Guests enter the body of the beagle from a private 2nd story deck. Some of the dog’s decorative furnishings are carvings by Dog Bark Park chainsaw artists Dennis & Frances. Inside and up another level to the head of the dog is a loft room with additional sleeping space plus a cozy alcove in the muzzle.

Ahh a cozy alcove in the muzzle…that’s where I hide acorns from my parents. Apparently other dogs use it to pamper humans.

Dog Bark Park is home to Toby and Sweet Willy, the World’s Two Biggest Beagles. Toby, a 12-foot tall beagle statue, was built by Dog Bark Park artists Dennis Sullivan and Frances Conklin.

Sweet Willy, officially known as Dog Bark Park Inn, is one of America’s latest additions to the type of roadside architecture popular in the early days of automobile vacation travel when travelers would often buy gas, eat meals or stay overnight in a building that looked like something else.

I believe that’s the same automobile vacation travel era that produced the Bates' Motel. Yeah you can check in but you’ll never leave.

With the two big dogs signaling your arrival to Dog Bark Park, visitors may walk the grounds, browse the gift shop and artists’ studio featuring the whimsical chainsaw artwork of husband/wife artists Dennis and Frances.

I don’t know about you but I don’t want any 12 foot dogs signaling anything unless a flash flood warning has been given to those down stream.

Hmmm, maybe it’s best if I just stay home and sleep instead.

Random Friday Thoughts

-I could've sworn I heard the can opener.

-Why doesn't the government do something about mange?

-I wonder if Toto was gay?

-Hey--no kidding, I'm sure that's the can opener.

-If there's a God, how can he allow neutering?

-I learned today that the computer's mouse is, unlike a real mouse, inedible.

-Please, oh, please, oh, please let that be the can opener.

Gimme the Phone

I remember being a young pup and the accompanying lack of self confidence I felt when approaching cute, chick pups to chat them up.

My head was too big for my body, my paws were like mitts on a baby and my bark had yet to change to the deep masculine one I now sport. In addition to that I couldn’t trust what came out of my mouth, if anything at all.

If that doesn’t make you feel like a l-o-s-e-r, nothing will.

That’s why I preferred to do my talking to the ladies one on one, and it was best done over the phone. That way if I were rejected, or made a cat out of myself, the pain would be minimal. Sure I’d still put my tail between my legs and race to the fridge to pig out on a quart of Frozen Paws ice cream, but at least I didn’t ruin my chances with other potential mates.

I bring this up only because my sister Lulu was caught trying to get some alone time, no doubt to call her man, on Mom's phone this morning. Unfortunately, she didn't get very far before the phone was snatched out of her paws...

Wanted: Good Home

My mother received an email about 4 bassets who were dumped in Waco by a backyard breeder. They are now stuck in a small cage at the Humane Society of Waco {pictured below}. If you think we should adopt them, please email my Old Man and tell him so. I think the white female on the right is pretty hot...FLASH
